Slowly getting acquainted with the buses and subway. The subway's pretty easy, actually, but the buses occasionally seem to pass by stops i expect them to stop at. :/ Not sure if it's them or me. So far I've been able to navigate by bus to the closest subway stop from my university. I've also been able to locate another nearby-ish stop that has a bus that takes me straight to the Tuesday fields for frisbee. It's kind of exciting and kind of stressful... especially since i'm not used to traveling solo by night. I have the new person's tendency to not feel threatened in a new town... partly cuz it's filled with asians, who, to me, appear to be less of a threat than the people who wander around at night back at home.

The first time I took the bus, though, I managed to miss my stop by two on the way back and had a somewhat stressful trek back to the dorm. It wasn't that far, but I wasn't that familiar with the area at night. I'm getting somewhat better at it. I refuse to take the taxi by myself unless absolutely necessary (which it hasn't been, thus far). I don't trust the drivers anymore. We've had a few that either didn't know where we were going, or tried to get extra money by 'taking the scenic route' so to speak. I'm not nearly alert enough in a car, nor sufficiently familiar with the area to deal with that. I've also heard some taxi's pass on counterfeit bills. If you give them a 100yuan bill (about 15 bucks) they could swap it out for a fake one and give it back to you. Apparently one of the frisbee guys got into a FAKE taxi where that happened to him.
